Hello Autumn!

Autumn

Yellow the bracken,
Golden the sheaves.
Rosy the apples,
Crimson the leaves.
Mist on the hillside,
Clouds grey and white.
Autumn, good morning!
Summer good night!

-Florence Hoatson

The air is turning crisp and cool here at the Farm. The changing winds are a gentle reminder for us all to slow down after the busy summer months and relish the calm before the holidays and winter start creeping in. On the farm, autumn is a time we embrace nature, share stories, and cozy up by the fire with cider donuts.  It’s an invigorating time for the senses.

When you venture outside listen closely. You can hear the soft ringing of the bells adorning the goats’ and cows’ necks.  Breathe in the refreshing air and notice the treasures that nature shares with all of us. A “Nature’s Library” has been installed on the Recreation Room wall, placed there so we can display some of the unique treasures little (or big) explorers find. A shiny rock, a piece of bark, a stunning leaf? Whatever strikes you, and feels worthy of display can be placed inside. Just make sure to let living things be and not to pick or disturb the natural habitats around the farm.

Another addition to the Farm this fall is a “Story Stroll”.  Head down the Sleigh Road toward the campfire and follow the story pages of Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn by Kenard Pak. Take in your surroundings accompanied by a story of seasonal change. This Story Stroll is perfect for young children, strollers, and adults who are children at heart.

What more could you ask for after a delightful day afield? Perhaps a cookie or two before you grab a spot by the fireplace to share stories of your own.

Happy Autumn!
