Bring on Summer!

We are gearing up for a busy summer at East Hill Farm. Every year we kick off the season with Orientation for the staff. Orientation was held on May 21 this year.

First, we had a general staff meeting where we introduced our new website, including the staff portal where schedules can be found. We talked about our new single stream, Zero Sort recycling program, which will be starting in the next few weeks. The Employee of the Year was awarded to Dennis Pratt. The votes for this distinction come from both staff and guests. This is not the first time Dennis has won this award and it is very well deserved. Congratulations Dennis!

After the general meeting, we broke up into department meetings where we were able to get down to the nitty gritty in each department. The chefs were busy fine tuning the menus with a few new items including Mexican stuffed shells and Jesse’s famous enchiladas, back by popular demand. The barn staff had a guest speaker reviewing milking techniques and milk sanitation practices. Glenn reviewed how to use a fire extinguisher to safely put out a fire.

After the department meetings, it was on to the scavenger hunt! The staff was given a list of items to collect and tasks to do taking them all around the property. They had to do things like: help clean up in the dish room, volley a tennis ball over the net 5 times, rent a pair of snow shoes, make a bead bracelet, and collect an egg. Everyone had a good time running around with their team.

We wrapped up the afternoon with an all staff picture and pizza party. We have a fantastic group of people ready to help make this year’s EHF vacation the best yet! Bring on summer 2014!
