Hello Winter! A Story Walk
“…Winter fringes every bough
With his fantastic wreath,
And puts the seal of silence now
Upon the leaves beneath…”
-Thoreau
The days are getting colder here on the farm and the winter darkness seems to be creeping in earlier and earlier. This is the time of year that wood is being chopped and stored in our cellar. Animals come inside the warm barn, and some even don blankets to help block the cold. The woodstove and fireplaces are ablaze in the Inn with many guests gathered round clutching warm drinks. Winter on the farm is a time where we move inward, toward the heat and comfort of light. We know that longer days await us after the winter when the farm will be bustling with new growth again. For now, the slow rhythm of companionship and warmth has us excited to welcome guests to this season on the farm.
In the winter we cross our fingers for snow here, as it brings opportunities to ski, snowshoe, and sled. The hard cold transforms our outdoor rec room into a skating rink. Even without the snow, our trails on the property are a treat, especially if you are looking for a quiet winter stroll. We have a new Story Stroll waiting for you all: Goodbye Autumn, Hello Winter by Kenard Pak. This beautifully illustrated story is about a brother and sister exploring nature and greeting all the signs of the coming winter season. We hope you will take a walk and join us as we say goodbye to autumn and welcome the winter months ahead.
