East Hill Farm Celebrates 70 Years of Farm Family Fun!
It is hard to believe that 70 years have passed since Parker Whitcomb first opened The Inn at East Hill Farm’s doors to vacationers looking for a unique family holiday. Although the Inn had experience hosting boarding farmers, Parker expanded that vision to host families all year round at a resort that emphasized fun vacation experiences in a country atmosphere. His goal was to educate vacationers about happenings on the farm while providing a relaxing environment for all ages to enjoy—and of course, it’s where Kids are King!
Over the years, the Adams family has expanded on this vision and on February 10-12, 2017, the family was fortunate to celebrate the Inn at East Hill Farm’s 70th Anniversary with many long time and new guests. Different summer weeks, multiple seasons, and even eras were represented by the weekend guests, making the festivities even more special.
At Friday check-in, each guest received a commemorative pint glass and a bag of EHF Childhood Treats that began setting the historical tone for the weekend.
Other festivities included a Family Photo Scavenger Hunt, the Inn’s first ever EHF Staff vs. Guest Snow Volleyball game, and an EHF Through the Decades Trivia game, where the questions were hard but the teams were resilient!
Before dinner, there was an authentic 1947 Cocktail Party, which featured Parker’s Punch, an olive, cheese and cabbage centerpiece, and a sing-a-long. At the end of the Cocktail Party, Mr. Adams led a toast, thanking his family, the staff at EHF, and, most importantly, the guests for 70 years of farm family fun. While many guests may not have known each other before the weekend, the sing-a-long, the toast, and maybe just a dash of Parker’s Punch truly melded them into a group with one thing in common—a love for EHF!
After the meal, which featured pickled herring as an appetizer, the evening ended with a live band and dancing. Gale County Band played music from many decades, ensuring fun for everyone who participated.
On Sunday morning, we showed “EHF: History and Hijinks”, a video about the history of the Inn, followed by a Q&A with Farmer Dave and Sally Adams. The Q&A portion evolved into a moment for guests to share some of their favorite memories of the farm. The celebratory weekend ended with a farewell turkey dinner, lots of memories fresh in everyone’s minds, and a little snow!
