mittedtopreservingthequalityoftheairandwaterintheenvi-
ronmentthatwelivein.HereinNewHampshirewehavemanynativeanimalsandplantsthatrequireclean,natu-
ralhabitats.Wealsotaketheutmostprideinthecareofourfarmanimals.Theseconserva-
tionpracticeshavehelpedouranimalstoliveincleaner,
healthierenvironments.Fi-

WoodcockHabitatRareBreedsWehaveseveralanimalsthatarelistedasprioritybreedsinNorthAmericabytheAmericanLivestockConservancy.Abreedislistedas“critical”iftherearelessthan200annuallyregisteredinNorthAmer-
icaandanestimatedlessthan2,000inglobalpopulation.The“watch”
classificationindicates2,500annu-
allyregisteredinNorthAmericaandestimatesfewerthan10,000inglobalpopulation.

stockgeneticresources.Weareworkingtopreservebreedsnotjustasrelicstobeviewedinazoo-likeformat,butratherasviablefarmanimalswhosegenetictraitswillal-
lowthechangesneededtosupportouragriculturalsystemsforgenera-
tionstocomeinourever-changingworld.
RiparianBuffer AreaPlantsgrowinginthisareaactasafilterbyabsorbingnutrientsflowingfromthebarnyardtowardthewater-
way,andtheyalsoprovideanaturalhabitatandcoverfornativewildlife.
FencingofWetlandsFencingaroundthesemarginallywetareasexcludesanimalsuntillaterinthegrowingseason.Thispreventsmudfromformingandhelpstheanimalstostayhealthybypreservingadryenvironment.Thisalsohelpsthewatertostaycleanandfreeofcontaminationbymanure.
ManureStorageThismanurestoragefacilitypre-
ventstheleachingofnutrientsfromthemanureintothegroundwater.
Thishelpstopreservethenutrientsinthemanuresothatitwillbebeneficialwhenappliedtofields.
RoofGuttersTheguttersontheroofofthisbarndivertcleanrainwaterawayfromthebarnyard,keepingthewatercleanandcreatinglessmudinthebarnyard.Therainwaterisreleasedwherethereisnomanurethatwouldcontaminatethiscleanwater.
