Chloe

It is with sad hearts that we tell you of the passing of Chloe. She died peacefully of old age on April 22 with both Sheri and Jim by her side.

Chloe at East Hill Farm Sheri and Jim first met Chloe in November of 2001. They brought her home in early 2002. She soon became everyone’s favorite greeter at East Hill Farm. Over the years she played “catch and drop” on the front stairs with more kids and adults then we could count. Her focus and intensity on a tennis ball was most remarkable. She trained many people in Chloe’s way of playing ball!

Chloe on the porchAlthough she was never formally trained in sheep herding, she did help around the farm when critters got loose. Mostly, she was there to greet guests, young and old, and to provide hours of entertainment for kids while their parents enjoyed dinner or visiting with friends.Chloe at Top of Stairs at East Hill Farm

Chloe was a true and loyal dog to Sheri and Jim and will be deeply missed.

You were a Good Girl, Chloe!

I’m so sad to read this, yet so grateful for Chloe’s long and happy life. She was such a big part of every visit to East Hill Farm and I was always so happy to see her, even when her ball playing antics had ceased. All of my photos from dance weekends nclude a shot of Chloe. Such a sweet and gentle soul – She will be sadly missed by everyone. Thank you for sharing her with us. Sending you love and sympathy. XO

So very sorry to hear about Chloes passing. She was quite the (quiet) little greeter. We will miss her in the coming years of the knitters weekends. Sending you all love and healing prayers.

We are so sorry to hear the news of the passing of Chloe. My children loved being welcomed each year by Chloe when we arrived. We loved when she would eat the ping pong balls when they went on the floor. We all will miss Her. With love,

We are so sad to hear of Chloe’s passing. She certainly had a wonderful life living on the Farm. We loved playing ball with her in the living room and how she would greet us every year upon our arrival for our annual scrapbook weekends for 12 years! We knew she was getting tired when we saw her in January and know that she has crooked over the Rainbow Bridge! RIP Chloe!

I’m so sorry to hear that Chloe passed over the Rainbow Bridge. I last saw her earlier this year when I was at the farm for the spinning/knitting retreat. This time I did recognize that she had become an old lady and wondered if I’d see her again. I always enjoyed talking to Chloe as I brought my bags into the inn and liked rubbing her neck and ears. She really was a good girl.

Please extend my condolences to Sherri and Jim and everyone at the farm. Thank you for sharing Chloe with all of us. She helped to make the inn feel like a home. <3

Charlene and I are deeply sadden by Chole’s passing. Charlene still has her Chole stuffed dog that we bought her in the gift shop and even took it to Quebec last year.

Thank you! It is nice to think about all the stuffed Chloes out there!

Oh dear, my sympathies to you in the lose of your loyal sweet dog. Take heart in that a good dog is a reflection of a good owner, you gave her a good life. I lost a similar collie at 14 years of age a few years ago and got a rescue collie 4 months later. It kept me busy and helped to ease the loss.

So very sorry to read of this loss. I don’t think I had the pleasure of meeting Chloe when I was at the farm in 2009, but knowing how much I love the pets in my family, my heart aches when I read about a friend’s loss. My sympathies to Sheri and Jim, and to the many friends Chloe made throughout the years. xxx

Each and every time we visit the farm, our first thoughts are of you… Waiting on the front steps ready for a game of toss, catch and fetch up and down those stairs! You never tired of that game… And neither did the kids! You will be deeply missed by your family and friends all over the world. Rest in peace dear lady! Keep your tennis ball skills honed! There are kids in heaven (big, small, old and young) waiting for you on those front steps and ready to play!

  29. Jennifer Gomez on May 6, 2016 at 11:19 pm

I lost a treasured friend today,
The little dog who used to lay
Her gentle head upon my knee
And share her silent thoughts with me.
She’ll come no longer to my calls,
Retrieve no more her favorite ball
A voice far greater than my own
Has called her to His golden throne.
And though my eyes are filled with tears,
I thank Him for the happy years
He let her spend down here with me,
And for her love and loyalty
    (Author unknown)

    Chloe will be missed.

    Dear Sheri and Jim,

So sad to hear of Chloe’s passing, we will surely miss her. Seeing Chloe each of the past 14 summers, have provided so many fond memories of her. In particular we always enjoyed the way she would reverse the game of fetch with us, bringing the ball back but placing it just out of our reach so we would have to get up and fetch the ball ourselves. Our thoughts are with you.

    fondly,
    Bill and Marlene

I will miss Chloe a lot….she was a very sweet dog. I can remember when I first starting massaging there she was always in grandmas attic living room. I would set the chair up to do chair massages and played “fetch” when I had down time in between clients (her kind of fetch, where you have to fetch the ball yourself). RIP Chloe, you will be missed for a long time 🙁

We were so sorry to know Chloe has passed. We want you to know we share your sorrow, as we had to put our cock-a-poo down Dec 29, 2015 she was 14 1/2 and just this past January, we had to put our other cock-a-poo down, Sasha was 13/1/2. We did get another cock-a-poo this past Sep. Nina is now 10 most. old.
Each precious canine friend we had takes a piece of our hearts with them, and each new friend gives us a part of their heart. As I saw once on a sign, that said, that if humans had the components of the dog’s heart, this would be a better world.
I want to believe we will see them all again.
Sending much comfort to you both.

Dear Jim, Sheri, and everyone else associated with The Inn at East Hill Farm,

For 16 years, our family came to the farm, and as we went upstairs to check in, their was Chloe waiting with her tennis ball to play catch. Chloe was more than a friend for our daughters, she was a teacher. She taught them that you needed patience, she taught them how to play, and she taught them how to have fun. Our condolences are sent with sadness, but knowing that she is in a happy place now will somewhat ease the pain.

We always had fun playing ball with Chloe. We will remember her fondly and miss seeing her at the farm.

This summer will be our 3rd, spending it with our East Hill Farm “family.” A high point from day 1 for my grandkids was Chloe….”look, a REAL farm dog!” Every day we have spent at the farm included a visit to the office for the kids to find Chloe and say “hi!” I will be very sad to have to tell them the news. As a life long dog family ourselves my heart goes out to you all. Both kids have at least 6 of their million stuffed dogs named Chloe after your beloved pet!

I am so sorry to learn Chloe has passed on. I’m sure she is in doggie heaven. We always looked for Chloe as soon as we checked in, she was such an important component of our Farm vacation. My family and I will miss her.

  91. Grace on May 7, 2016 at 10:28 pm

Chloe was happy to see everyone and always there to greet us with a ball upon arrival. Truly a special part of the farm and a special dog. I know what it’s like to loose a special dog. My deepest sympathy to the family but you gave Chloe a wonderful life. To bring each other happiness should be cherished.

I really will miss Chloe, you were like a third furry family member to me. I will always remember playing with the tennis ball on the stairs with you as me and my sisters got older. I still remember when you used to trudge downstairs and lied underneath the ping pong tables. rest in peace ? you will forever be a part of my childhood that I will never forget

  95. Mary Beth Tumilty on May 7, 2016 at 10:56 pm

Chloe was the best. She was the first animal I looked for when I arrived! I loved to play with her and give her treats. One of my happiest memories was when I was sitting in the front room near the gift shop and she keep barking at me even though there was no tennis ball to be seen. I finally observed that she seemed to be barking at the bottom of the couch I was sitting on. I looked under the couch and lo and behold there was a tennis ball that she was very intent on and wanted me to throw. I will miss Chloe very much but I know that she is where tennis balls are galore and her companions never stop throwing them to her and head scratches are always available. All of her aches and pains are gone and she is a happy puppy again!

  96. Deb on May 7, 2016 at 11:19 pm

The first time I stayed at a weekend event there my friend and I were having a ping pong match. Down came Chloe and we soon learned that if the ball left the table it belonged to Chloe because she was much faster at retrieving it then we were! She was and always will be part of the magic of East Hill Farm!

  97. Judy Fischer on May 8, 2016 at 2:21 am

Harris and I loved the way Chloe trained us and all the other guests to fetch for her! She was a real part of the East Hill Farm family. I’m sad about Chloe and sad for you.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Our pets, esp. ones that have been with us for such a long time, have such a piece of our heart. Their unconditional love is a lesson for all of us 2 legged creatures. God Bless.

We are so very sorry to hear the news about Chloe and send you a warm hug. Chloe was a wonderful ambassador for the farm! Of course it was a joy to play catch on the stairs and marvel at her “snout to mouth” precision! But more importantly Chloe always made us smile with her knowing gaze as she wagged at us upon entrance like – “oh, hey, you’re back. Welcome and make yourself at home!” She will be missed by many. Thank you for so openly sharing this wonderful pet with us!!

Very sorry to read of Chloe’s passing. The last time we were at the Farm (2008) my girls LOVED playing catch with her on the stairs. When we returned home all we heard was how much they missed her. She touched many lives and will be missed dearly.

  103. Suzanne Renault-Morgan on May 8, 2016 at 11:02 am

Sorry to learn about Chloe. She definitely was the perfect dog to greet visitors to the farm. She seemed to really belong to the staff that makes the Farm such a special place. We always enjoyed seeing her at the bottom of the stairs to await the next ball to fetch. When I lost my Gracie after her thirteethth year, a little part of my heart went with her and I am sure Chloe took a part of your hearts too. Out sympathy to all of the farm family.

  104. Kathy Halamka on May 8, 2016 at 12:53 pm

I cannot imagine the Farm without Chloe…. I am imagining her waiting for the ball on the steps up to the office, she will be missed!

We are very sad to hear of the passing of such an amazing dog. Chloe was so much fun for everyone and such a good girl. We looked forward to seeing her at the top of the stairs every Dec when we got there for the dance weekends. She will be missed by everyone and will always be in the hearts of all those she used to give such a warm welcome to. The weekends will not be the same with out her. So happy to have a magnet with her picture on it right on our fridge.

I know there are no adequate words to express such a difficult valley you all are going through but I know that you have been blessed for having such a wonderful companion and faithful pet. You all at EHF are a special part of our Troy family, when one suffers we all feel the pain. Thank you for sharing your wonderful Chloe with us.

So sad to hear of Chloe’s passing . I will miss her watching the ball go down the stairs. There’s a reason why Dog is God spelled backwards. Our furry friends will always hold a special place in our hearts, even after they’re gone.

I enjoyed watching Chloe drop her ball down the stairs and then look at someone to go get it for her. She always manged to entice someone to retrieve the ball for her. She was a great dog and she will be missed by many of us.

We are so sorry to hear about Chloe. We always loved seeing her sitting in the passenger seat of Sheri’s car while heading home from a busy day on the farm. Her steadfast loyalty was seen within her beautiful face. God bless.

RIP Chloe. We loved seeing you at the Farm. It will be strange the next time we come to know that you will no longer be there to welcome us. I know your spirit will be there and we will remember you fondly every time we climb the front stairs to the office. Happy eternal ball playing, sweet Chloe!

So sorry for your loss of Chloe. But to have you both by her side, sure it helped her to go peacefully

  117. Cori Couture on May 9, 2016 at 9:48 pm

Chloe was the best. I am clearly only one of *hundreds* who were delighted by her intelligence, laser-beam focus, and her ability to train even the simplest of us humans to do her bidding. Our Tech Squares weekend won’t be the same without her, but I will continue to think of her every time I open or close my refrigerator door, thanks to my EHF Chloe magnet.

Deepest condolences and thanks for sharing Chloe with all of us.

Losing a pet is like losing a family member. We’re so sorry about Chloe. Hearing about her passing certainly brought sadness to our family, too. We will always remember her as the first one to greet us when we arrived each summer and the last to send us off on our way home. She will be missed yet remain in a bright spot in our memories.

  121. The Aronson Family on May 12, 2016 at 8:30 am

We remember those first years Chloe started hanging out with us in Grandmother’s Attic’s living room. She had such a knack for dropping that tennis ball behind your chair so it was just out of your reach. But that sweet face and sweeter disposition made it impossible to resist getting up and tossing the ball for her again. Right alongside the scavenger hunt, the old ‘horse races’, the food, and the skiing, we always looked forward to having Chloe greet us when we arrived or came in from a ski. We will miss her, but we will always remember her fondly.

Chloe was Mariah’s favorite pal as Mariah was only about 5 years old and was usually at the farm when there were not alot of kids around. She so enjoyed running with Chloe and being best budies. Mariah is now almost 21 years old and was sadden by the news of her buddy passing. We will all miss her greeting us at the door.

Just hearing of sweet Chloe’s passing. Chloe was always the first to greet us upon arrival for our many years of going to the farm. We went for 13 straight years, and I’m pretty sure Chloe was present for every one of them. What a trusted, beautiful, loyal companion. Sending you our sympathies. My daughter still has her stuffed Chloe. And we have many pictures of our times at the farm with Chloe “photo bombing” many of them. Rest in peace, Sweet Chloe.
